MARCIN ZDUNIK, first prize and Grand Prix winner of the VI Lutoslawski International Cello Competition in Warsaw (Poland) was born in 1987 in Warszawa, Poland. In 1994 he began his cello studies at the Moniuszko School of Music in Warsaw with professor Maria Walasek and continued it under supervision of Prof. Andrzej Orkisz. Currently he is a student with Andrzej Bauer at the Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw.
Marcin Zdunik performs in Europe and Asia, frequently presenting his own compositions and arrangements for cello and chamber ensembles. He has co-operated with many renowned ensambles e.g. Prague Chamber Orchestra, St.Petersburg Camerata, Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra and Wratislavia Chamber Orchestra and worked with renowned musicians such as Julius Berger, Andrzej Bauer and Jan Stanienda.
He has performed as a soloist in prestigious concert halls, e.g. Rudolfinum in Prague, the Hermitage Theatre in St Petersburg, Konzerthaus Dortmund (Philharmonie für Westfalen), Slovak Philharmonic Hall in Bratislava, National Philharmonic in Warsaw and the Lutoslawski Concert Studio of the Polish Radio. He has appeared at the Musical Olympus Festival in St. Petersburg, Musica Polonica Nova in Wroclaw, Autunno Musicale Caserta, Lago Maggiore Musica, Meklenburg-Vorpommern Festival, Bratislava Music Festival, Wartburg Festival and the Chamber Music Festival "Arsenal Nights" in Wroclaw.
In 2008 he represented the Polish Radio in Slovakia at the International Forum of Young Performers, organized by the European Broadcasting Union, where he received the title 2008 New Talent. In 2004 he received the Pro Arte scholarship at the festival "Week of Talents" in Tarnów, Poland and also a prize of the Summer Academy at the Universitat Mozarteum Salzburg. He holds a scholarship of Pro Polonia Society and Mozart Gesellschaft Dortmund.
Marcin Zdunik attended masterclasses and courses with professors Michael Flaksman, Leonid Gorokhov, Gary Hoffman, Julius Berger and Cecylia Barczyk. He has four times been awarded Artistic Scholarship from the Polish Ministry of Culture.
